4th of July Activities Near You

Communities across Williamson County will be celebrating our nation's independence.  Put on your best patriotic clothing and join in the festivities.   Here is a sampling of some of the activities:

Cedar Park Fourth of July Celebration  Friday, July 4, 2008 -  4:00 pm - Milburn Park, Cedar Park, TX.  Come celebrate with us and enjoy live music, food concessions, air castles, prizes, video games & lazer tag adventures, a washer tournament, and games for all ages. The fabulous day of celebration will end with a magnificent fireworks display sponsored by H-E-B.

Georgetown 4th of July in the Park Friday, July 4, 2008 - 11:00 am - San Gabriel Park, Georgetown, TX.   With more than 80 booths, parade, live entertainment, train rides, fireworks and more (all located on the beautiful San Gabriel River) there's only one place you should be this 4th of July.

Hutto 4th of July Activities - Come out this July 4th and celebrate Independence Day with the City of Hutto Parks & Recreation Department.  Hutto PARD will be hosting a walking parade that will with travel through some of old town Hutto. The Parade begins promptly at 8:30 AM at Fritz Park. Bicycles, strollers, wagons and walkers are allowed in this parade, but no motorized vehicles will be allowed

Leander LibertyFest Friday, July 4, 2008 -  5:00 pm - Crystal Falls Golf Course, 3400 Crystal Falls Pkwy.  Join the residents of Leander celebrate our nation's birthday at Leander LibertyFest.

American Family Reunion in Liberty Hill – Events will run fgrom July 1st through July 4th.  Highlights include an appreciation luncheon for Veterans with Congressman Carter on July 4th, patriotic music, a baked apple pie contest, and fireworks Friday night.

Round Rock July 4th Frontier Days Celebration Friday, July 4, 2008 -  10:00 am - Old Settler's Park, Round Rock, TX.  A freedom walk, parade, jalapeno pepper contest, children's games, Ballet Folklorico dancers, Sam Bass Shootout and fireworks are all part of the City of Round Rock's July 4 Frontier Days Celebration 2008.

Taylor Independence Festival Fajita Cookoff and Firework Show.  Friday, July 4, 2008 - 10:00 am - Murphy Park on Lake Drive, Taylor, TX.  Festival includes Carnival, Fajita Cook Off, Bicycle Parade, tennis tournament, and fireworks at dark.
 

Republican Party of Texas 2008 Convention Wrap-Up



The Republican Party of Texas conducted its state convention June 12-14 in Houston, Texas.  Well over 175 delegates and alternates from Williamson County attended.  Williamson County delegates were recognized with several key roles at the convention.

Hal Talton of Round Rock was reelected to a two year term as the Committeeman for the State Republican Executive Committee representing Senate District 5.   Georgetown Area Republican Women President Lavonne Ranc of Georgetown was selected to serve on the Rules Committee, which recommended rules for the convention and oversaw revisions to the operating rules of the Republican Party of Texas for the next two years.  Former GOP Chairman Darryl Pool of Round Rock and Glenn Warren of Austin were chosen to serve on the at-large nominations committee, which recommended the 41 at-large delegates and alternate delegates to the national convention.

On Saturday, June 14, elections were held in the Congressional District 31 Caucus for Delegates and Alternates to attend the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis – Saint Paul, September 1-4.  Holly Hansen of Round Rock and Tony Dale of Cedar Park were elected as Delegates to the Republican National Convention.  Mike McCloskey of Cedar Park and County Clerk Nancy Rister of Georgetown were elected as Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention.  Additionally, Glenn Warren was selected to be an at-large delegate to the Republican National Convention and Amy Rister, daughter of County Clerk Nancy Rister was elected as an alternate delegate from Brazos County, where she attends Texas A&M University.

Ronny Risinger of Round Rock was elected to serve as the Presidential Elector.   Others serving in leadership roles included Holly Hansen (SD 5 Caucus Secretary), Stephen Balkum and Ray Stilwell (SD 5 and CD 31 Caucus Sgts-at-Arms), and Steve Armbruster & Rod Cole (CD 31 Caucus Parliamentarian and Asst. Parliamentarian).
